When Spotify announced the Car Thing in early 2021, I thought it would be a great product! Sleek and easy to use, and allowing people with vehicles that don’t have the crazy 10 inch touchscreen displays to still enjoy the best music app. The company initially was trying to launch the product, so they were giving them away for free if you signed up.

A retail $80 dollar piece of tech with a possibility of it being free?? As the straight out of college tech nerd that I am, I instantly signed up to test my luck.

I won. I will gladly pay the shipping for this.

I get it, set it up in my car. Works as intended. No complaints from me what so ever.

Flash forward to 2024.

Damn it. I’m not getting rid of it, but damn it. I have charging cables twice as old as my niece that are not frayed in the slightest that I use to this day. God Bless the Nintendo 3DS charging cables.

So, this lead me to hack it.

What I mainly used:

(Just basically followed all of Dinosaur’s instructions)

I never used Zadig or the Superbird tool, but it didn’t discourage me.

Why?

I have experience with Python and Git. I knew I had the ability to get this done because other people were capable of doing it. I had set the goal for me to get this project done, so I could keep this wonderful piece of technology.

Playing Denzel Curry and showing that it works.

I completed the hack in 2 hours with proof of me playing Denzel Curry on speaker. Soon, I want to have desk look like Tank’s from the Matrix, and having this wonderful piece of tech with bring me closer to that moment of fulfillment and self actualization.

Bonus: Video I sent to my girlfriend. (Whenever I work on something, I focus on the task until I hit a wall. I just rarely hit walls that I cannot break through.)
